WWF is a totally independent and politically independent environmental and nature conservation organization founded in 1961.
With its almost five million supporters, WWF is one of the world's leading nonprofit conservation organizations, with projects in more than 100 countries. Operations are financed largely with donations from the public.
WWF is working to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by:
- Conserving the world's biological diversity
- Promote the renewable natural resources in a sustainable way
- Reducing pollution and wasteful consumption.
According to a survey conducted by Cint commissioned by WWF in in January 2014, over 1000 young Swedes within the ages between 15-25, 85 percent believe that politicians and decision makers in general must do more to stop climate change, and 76 percent believe that the climate should become an election issue. The main reason why they think this is that "climate change will determine our future of the planet ". A majority are more concerned about climate change today, than what they were five years ago and the numbers reflect a growing climate commitment of Sweden's young adults.
WWF wants to mobilize this commitment, turning concern into action and involving Sweden's youth in efforts to preserve the planet for future generations.
Mission – We are currently working with WWF and its Youth Council on a project that will take place during the spring of 2015. During the project we will produce 4 events about sustainability aimed at young people aged 18-25 years living in different boroughs around Sweden.
Project – The first section of the 3 year long project will begin with the suburb Tensta. WWF aims to connect with young people across Sweden and solicit 8 young people to WWF's Youth Council 2015-2016.
The first event will take place in Tensta in Stockholm where we want to, at the end of the project, recruit 3 young people from Tensta to the Youth Council. We will also produce 2 Workshops and after the summer conclude with an event.
Sustainability - the word that will lead us towards a better future - can mean so much more than what people think. We are looking for young people's unique interpretation of the word and the meaning of the word to the youths.
Result – The Youth Council will during 2015 - 2016 act as a mentoring program where young people are provided with the right tools in order to make something out of an idea or a project in sustainability. The youth council is a tool and support system for the members to use when executing their projects.
